Week 1: Intro to Database Systems
Relational databases and spreadsheets do look similar however, they are used in different ways. Spreadsheets contain information and data but that is merely it. Relational databases are used for relationships and queries. Each row and column have it's own purpose. A column contains data such as name, age, height, etc where the rows are related to a specific entity.
Databases are extremely important when handling large amounts of information. The example we used in labs this week is data for a school. There are different students with different ID's and majors and each have their own credits. The use or queries also makes it easier to sort and simplify large amounts of data.
I have interests in possibly becoming a data scientist. I have taken one class on databases that I really enjoyed so I hope to gain more knowledge in the subject and see where it can possibly take me.
